Dinos Face Two Big Early Season Games

Filed under: — Matt Skinn @ 11:45 am

It may be a bit early to characterize this week’s games with U of A as ‘must win’, but the two matches in Edmonton are, indeed, huge for both the Dinos and the Bears. Calgary (0-2) and Alberta (1-3) are both looking to get on track after a slow start.

The Dinos, who travelled to the Southern U.S. for two exhibition games last weekend, must now focus on their arch-rival, and try and even their league record with a pair of wins. Calgary must become more efficient on offense, and the team knows they need to cut down on costly turnovers. The defensive keys will be to limit Alberta’s 5th year post, Phil Sudol, and to stifle the 3 point shooting of Dean Whalen.

The Bears are strong in the post with 6′9″ Scott Gordon pairing with Sudol, and their back-court is led by 4th year point Tyson Jones. Alberta split with Lethbridge in Southern Alberta last weekend after losing two at home to Saskatchewan in week 1.

The Calgary line-up will be the same for the Bears series as we still await the return of Sonny Khangura, our 6′7″ , 270 lb post player, who is recovering from a severe ankle sprain. He is expected back for the games November 18 and 19 at the University of Manitoba.

Games are 8:15 both Friday and Saturday at the U of A gym.
