Dinos to Face Bisons on the Road in Conference Play

Filed under: — Matt Skinn @ 10:37 am

The traveling hoop show known as the Calgary Dinos takes to the road ( actually, the skies) again this week to face the University of Manitoba Bisons in Winnipeg. Both teams are winless in Canada West action thus far, and the Bisons will be hoping home court will give them an advantage.

The Dinos are trailing in the standings, but we are all aware that 16 games remain, and an 0-4 record can be turned around with a concerted effort by every team member. This past weekend saw some very positive signs for the Dinos:

- Ross Bekkering continues to show signs that he is a threat on a night to night basis in Canada West. His athleticism and activity on the boards will carry him through his rookie campaign.

- There is no real answer to Chris Wright in the post or when he has it going from the perimeter.

- Josh Feist continues to progress as he gets into the flow after missing early season action during injury.

- Sonny Khangura’s addition to the Dino lineup should bolster a somewhat thin front court.

The team hopes that a solid week of practice will help them as they travel once again to Winnipeg for two crucial conference games.

Dino of the Week - November 14, 2005

After two courageous performances on the road against arch Alberta Golden Bears, Chris Wright is the Dino of the Week.

Despite only playing 8 minutes in the first half due to foul trouble, CW had a terrific second half and overtime for the Dinos. Although the outcome was not in their favour (90-88 OT loss), the Dinos repeated went to CW down the stretch, and he came through. After going 0-1 from the floor in the first half, Chris finished 7-14 from the floor, 1-3 from 3pt. range, and 7-9 from the line to finish with 22 points in 32 minutes of action including a key three, and a monstrous dunk on Golden Bear Dean Whalen in the dying minutes of the game. Chris was also a monster on the boards grabbing a game high 14 rebounds.

The second game seemed eeringly similar to the first game, with Chris playing limited minutes in the first half due to foul trouble. Once he re-entered the game, Chris played very well scoring 14 points in only 21 minutes of action which included scoring 7 of 9 from the floor. Chris also grabbed 7 rebounds in the Dino loss.

The Dinos play at the University of Manitoba against the Bisons in two early season must win games.
