Road Warriors Finally Home, Eager to Start Conference Play
The Dinos completed a 3 game tour of Montana last weekend with an 0-3 record, but some encouraging play from the 8 stalwarts who made the
trip. In a year where injury and illness seem to again be playing a bigger role than we would hope, the team has shown signs of improvement.
Led by Chris Wright, our 5th year captain, who has played withseveral nagging hurts for the whole season, the Dinos had their best game against a very tough Carroll College team from Helena. Wright led the team in scoring and rebounding, while throwing his body into the path of opponents in drawing charges in all three games.
Brian Finniss, a 4th year transfer from Acadia, displayed a nose for the hoop as he repeatedly took the ball inside to score from his wing position. Brian is the defensive leader on the perimeter, and he too plays through illness and injury to give the team big minutes every time out.
Cody Darrah, forced to play 35+ minutes per game at the point due to the absence (illness) of Josh Feist, showed flashes of brilliance in hitting outside shots and directing the offense. Cody looks more comfortable week by week as he settles in with the Dinos after a year off.
Keeping you up to date: it appears Sonny Khangura, who had been finding his stride, will be lost to the team for an undetermined time. He suffered a leg injury in the Carroll game. Tony Dhaliwal, a ‘red-shirt’ 1st year player from Abbotsford , B.C. played in Montana (He is allowed a tournament and 1 other game before he has to declare eligibility), and he looked sharp once he overcame some first game jitters at the point guard.
Calgary was missing: Robbie Sihota - flu, Josh Feist - throat, Jeremy Odland - holiday, Adam Ford - travel, Greg Jobagy - flu.
The Dinos face Brandon Bobcats this coming weekend, Friday and Saturday at 8:00 pm at the Jack Simpson Gym.
