Friday night in Lethbridge promises to be an emotion -packed game as Calgary and Lethbridge vie for a playoff spot in the Canada West Central Division. The Dinos have won 3 straight, and come into this crucial contest having improved to 7-9 with a noticeable improvementin play during the second half of the season.

The ‘Horns won last Saturday at home against Saskatchewan, and have usually had one strong game each weekend. Friday’s home court is big for Lethbridge, who will look to the athletic leadership of Tim Whitehead and the streaky scoring of Todd McLenaghan to topple the Dinos.

Calgary has been riding the broad shoulders of rookie post Ross Bekkering, who is now the 3rd best rebounder in Canada West. His partner at the starting post spot, 5th year scorer (15.9 ppg) Chris Wright will also have to pound the glass if Calgary is to defeat the speedy Pronghorns. Josh Feist, who had 39 pts. and 14 assists in two games at Kamloops last weekend, is showing his explosive form at just the right time. Brian Finniss had 20 pts. in each of the two games vs. Thompson Rivers, and is set to lead the Dinos at both ends of the floor.

Game time in Lethbridge is 8:15 on Friday.

Senior Night Saturday

Chris Wright is the lone senior graduate for the Dinos this Saturday at the Jack Simpson Gym, where he has thrilled Calgary hoops fans for the past 5 seasons. A 2001 graduate of William Aberhart High School in Calgary, where he won two Senior City Championships, Chris has been a force up front for the Dinos since his rookie season. The Canada West all-star post man has been one of the league’s top rebounders and scorers with his enthusiastic style of play.

Chris is the captain of this year’s team, and has worked hard to bring together a line-up featuring several rookies and transfers. Chris’ effort when playing with nagging injuries has been a great example to his teammates. Former teammates and Chris’ parents Allen and April Wright will join in celebrating a sparkling CIS career highlighted by a Canada West Championship and a trip to the National Semi-Final in March of 2004.

This Saturday’s game could mark Chris’ last at ‘The Jack’, unless Calgary can run the table and catch Alberta for second in the Division. Game time is 8:00 Saturday vs. Lethbridge.
