Player Profile - Logan Armstrong - Class of 2006/07

Filed under: — Matt Skinn @ 4:52 pm

Big Stone makes a very small geographical imprint on the vast landscape of Eastern Alberta, but a large impression on the basketball world. Logan Armstrong played basketball at Youngstown
High School, the regional school for villages and towns in the farming and ranching area close to Hanna. Logan, at 6′5″ played the point for the Falcons and led them to a 2nd place finish in the 2006 1A Alberta Championships.

Actually, Logan did it all with his smooth shooting stroke, passing ability, and his tenacious rebounding. His coach was his Dad, John Armstrong, who was the recipient of the Alberta Schools Most Sportsmanlike Coach for the past season. Coach and father nurtured a
tremendous talent and a fine young man in Logan, and the Dinos got an early look at his potential when he played with the Junior Dinos in the summer of 2005 under Coach Matt Skinn. Logan impressed with his long range shooting and his very competitive nature, and was a top
priority for Head Coach Dan Vanhooren in the recruiting this past winter.

Logan joins older brother Taylor, a 6′5″ 4th year transfer post player at Trinity Western, in Canada West competition and it will be an interesting game for the Armstrong family on November 11 in Calgary as the Spartans visit the Dinos. Logan will compete at the shooting guard and ‘big guard’ spots for the Dinos as he starts what promises to be a bright career of CIS basketball.

Player Profile - Chris Unsworth - Class of 2006/07

Filed under: — Matt Skinn @ 4:49 pm

Chris Unsworth stands 6′7″ tall and weighs in at a solid 225 lbs.; a very strong player considering he is an incoming freshman for the 2006-’07 Dinos. The left handed post player was a two sport all-star at Medicine Hat High School, and has been recruited by the Dinos Football team as well.

In leading his Mohawk teams of the past two years to back to back Southern Alberta Basketball titles, Chris and his teammates have made history for their high school. Chris’ presence in the post for ‘Hat High was a big determining factor, and he received a lot of interest from Canada West universities in the recruiting wars. The Dinos are fortunate to snag the hard-working freshman, whose older brother Clint, is a 6′9″ 2nd year at the University of Saskatchewan. The brothers transferred to Medicine Hat from Maple Creek, Saskatchewan and the Mohawks became an instant powerhouse in Southern Alberta football and basketball.

Look for the big red head to provide an enthusiastic and aggressive element to the Dinos inside game in the upcoming season. Chris will join the Dinos in practice in the last week of August in preparation for games with the University of Wyoming on September 2 and 3.
