1-2 Record at Huskiehoops.com Tournament
The Dinos returned home to Calgary Late on Saturday night following an 86-78 loss to the Brandon University Bobcats finishing up the tournament at 1-2. The Dinos finished up the three game tournament having also faced the Regina Cougars and the Saskatchewan Huskies. Brandon won the round robin tournament being played at the PAC in Saskatoon with a record of 3-0.
The tournament started off strong for the Dinos with a 82-61 victory over the Regina Cougars. The Dinos were led by 5 players in double figures. Cody Darrah scored a game high 19 points on 6 of 11 shooting from the floor in 31 minutes of action. Other double digit scorers were Josh Feist with 14, Robbie Sihota with 13, while Joseph Schow and Brian Finniss each added 12. The Dinos shot 49.5% from the floor, while shooting a blazing 11-20 from 3pt. territory. The Cougars were led by Jamal Williams’ 12 points and 9 rebounds.
The Friday night game saw the Dinos play against their familiar in division rivals, the Huskies of U of S. The Dinos stumbled their way to a 69-58 loss. With 21 turnovers, Calgary continued to supply the opposition with too many extra opportunities. A belated comeback allowed the Dinos to narrow the margin to only 11 in a game where the offense sputtered throughout. Cody Darrah and Robbie Sihota led the Dinos with 11 points each while Ross Bekkering had 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Dinos shot 45% on the game and only 9 of 18 free throws. Saskatchewan was 48% and 8 of 9 from the foul line.
The Final Saturday night game matched the Dinos up against the very athletic Brandon Bobcats. With an injured Ross Bekkering, the Dinos came out slowly and were down 41-27 at the half. The Dinos came back outscoring the Bobcats 51 - 45 to take a final 86 - 78. Josh Feist led the scoring with 22 points and 6 assists; Cody Darrah added 18 while Robbie Sihota notched 15 and 8 rebounds. Calgary shot 47% for the game while Brandon was a hot 53%.
The Dinos see action again at home in the Jack Simpson this weekend as they host the Battle of the Border. Game times are 4pm, 6pm and 8pm on Friday and Saturday, and 11am, 1pm, and 3pm on Sunday with the Dinos playing the late game each day.
