Dinos to Saskatoon after falling twice to U of A

Most Canadians look south for relief from winter’s grip, but not our hardy Dinos … off to sub-tropical Saskatoon with two games ahead against the 4-4 Huskies, and playoff implications already on our minds.

It can’t be any colder than Alberta … can it? Looking past the obvious downside of a weekend in Saskatoon in December, we forge ahead with our task of winning a couple of road games. Not always the easiest job, but one we need to tackle if we are to challenge in our Division. Saskatchewan gained a split last weekend in Lethbridge, and have a 1 game lead on the 3-5 Dinos. The Green and White are led by all-Canadian Andrew Spagrud, a 6′6″ forward who leads Canada West in rebounding at 9.7 per game and is 2nd in scoring with an impressive 25 pts. per game. The other main man for U of S is 6′3″ guard Kyle Grant, who is notching 15.7 pts and 5 assists per game.

The Huskies won the Mountain Division last season, and are looking to repeat, despite losing two starters. They have added two Mount Royal College Cougars to their lineup … 6′7″ forward Mark Lynch and 6′1″ guard Kalen Edlund. Also a key member of the Huskies is 6″10″ Clint Unsworth, a 2nd year post, who is the brother of Calgary’s 6′7″ rookie post, Chris Unsworth.

The Dinos are on a three game losing skid, and need to pick up their defensive intensity if they are to turn things around in these last two games before the exam break. Game times are 8 pm both nights in Saskatoon, and there is no radio of the contests.
