Bears Drop Dinos

Filed under: — Matt Skinn @ 9:49 am

With all the apparent motivation in the world, the Calgary Dinos took the floor Friday night against arch-rival Alberta with a chance to get a positive start to the second half of the season. The Bears were, however, the team which looked far more energized as they took control of the contest from the opening minutes, as they quickly built a 19-6 lead. A late run gave the Dinos some hope, but Alberta buried key foul shots and broke Calgary pressure to prevail 90 - 82.

Time and again the porous Dinos defense allowed lay-ups and inside hoops as the Bears scored through Scott Gordon, their 5th year post, who notched 29 pts. Alberta won the rebounding battle 39 - 35, and their inside game stifled Calgary at both ends of the court. The Dinos relied on 10/26 three point shots to stay within sight of the Bears. Dinos foul shooting was 22/26, but not enough to close the gap sufficiently to put any pressure on Alberta.

Ross Bekkering had 21 pts. and 9 rebounds to lead the Dinos, while Cody Darrah found the range on 5/10 treys to score 19. Calgary drops to 3-8 on the season, while Alberta is atop the Canada West Mountain Division with an 8-3 mark. The teams play again saturday at 8:00 pm at the Jack Simpson Gym.
