Dinos Bomb Bears
Night and day … in the first 10 minutes, Calgary had scored 14 points, looked tentitive on offense, and had point guard, Josh feist, on the bench with two fouls in the first 4 minutes. The Alberta Golden Bears where scoring inside, and it began to look like another frustrating outing for the hometown Dinos. Down 39 - 31 at the break, the boys decided to cue the comeback….
Final score … Calgary 89 - Alberta 77 … Calgary’s 58 point charge is ignited by Feist’s 19 pts., 4 steals, and notably more energized defense. Ross Bekkering dominates the glass for 13 boards to go with 12 pts., and Cody Darrah hits several clutch hoops on the way to 19 pts. Darrah also leads with 6 assists, and his work at the point in relief of Feist is a crucial contribution to righting the ship and averting a capsizing. His 7/13 shooting capped a solid weekend for the emerging floor leader.
Another key player was rugged Brian Finniss, who hit 12 pts. and played strong defense to settle the Calgary team down in the second half. His trey with 3 minutes left seemed to put the Dinos over the top on the way to their 4th league win ( 4 - 8 ). With the absence of 6′9″ post man, Joe Schow, the Dinos posts had to work by committee, and Sonny Khangura stepped up for 9 pts., Robbie Sihlota for 8, and Chris Unsworth in a relief role.
Calgary goes south next weekend for a pair of games in Lethbridge … the games will be played in the new U of L facility, which, mercifully, replace the old grey concrete dungeon.
With many games left to play, anything can happen in Canada West Basketball Action!
