Dinos Host Cougars

Cougars Rely on Hot-shooting Guards

The Dinos Friday night opponents, the Regina Cougars have a couple of talented guards who are better from 3 pt. range than from inside the arc. Freshman wing man Jeff Lukomski has taken 118 treys and connected on 50 for 42%, while 2nd year combo guard Paul Schubach is even more deadly on 32/60 shots from outside. They are both 82 % free throw shooters.

Inside, the Cougars are smaller, but very tenacious on the boards. They out-rebound their opponents 629 - 567 over the season, and they take more foul shots … 398 - 278. That last stat may be because Regina is primarily a zone team and they protect against man-man fouls. The Cougars have shown a 3/4 court zone press and a 2-3 half court trap as well. Regina is 5-9 in Canada West play, which matches the Dinos to this point in the proceedings.

Calgary is still without Joe Schow ( 3 weeks - ankle ) and Robbie Sihota will be available for limited duty with his ankle sprain. Set to lead the Dinos this weekend is point man Josh Feist , who has been a force at both ends the last three games. He notched 27 in the Saturday game against Lethbridge last weekend .Josh continues to lead Canada West in assists … 6.0 per game. Ross Bekkering is the top rebounder with 7.9 per game. Calgary has 4 players averaging double figures in scoring …Josh Feist … 15 pts. , Robbie Sihota and Cody Darrah … 12 pts., and Ross Bekkering … 11.2 pts.

Game time is 8:00 pm both Friday vs. Regina and Saturday against Brandon Bobcats, the leaders in the Great Plains Division.
