Bekkering Brothers Maul Miners
The Dinos dynamic duo, Ross and Henry Bekkering gave the Montana Tech Ore-Diggers more than they could handle, as the brothers from Taber combined for 39 points and 22 rebounds in leading Calgary to a 73-67 win Friday night in Butte, Montana. Ross snatched a season high 18 rebounds to go with 16 pts., while Henry notched 23 pts. and added 4 boards.
Calgary was full marks for the win, and Tech’s only advantage came in 3 pt. shooting where they hit 10 of 27 and made a late charge, but were thwarted by key hoops from Henry B, and free throws from Jeff Price and Ross B. The Dinos look to have found a dependable floor leader in Price, who struck for 12 pts. and dealt out 3 assists; Price seems to have the toughness to play smart at crucial stages of the game.
Once again the Dinos dominated the glass 47 - 41, and newcomer Josh Lovestone was particularly effective coming off the bench, as the 3rd year forward had 4 boards and 7 pts. The powerfully built Salmon Arm, B.C. product is willing and able to do the important blue collar defensive and rebounding chores in relief of the starters. Cody Darrah had a sharp game as a distributing guard in leading the team with 6 assists.
Calgary travels 70 miles down the road this morning and will face the ever-tough Fighting Saints of Carroll College tonight in Helena.

Dinos Stop Saints in OT
The Calgary Dinos left Montana Saturday night with the prospect of a 6 hour bus trip brightened by the 85-83 overtime win at Carroll College and the completion of a two game sweep of Frontier Conference teams on the weekend. Despite a rough shooting night and an injured ankle for star transfer Henry Bekkering, the Dinos edged the Fighting Saints in the extra frame after Jeff Price made two clutch free throws at the end of regulation.
Ross Bekkering again had an impressive double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds, and he was joined by Price who scored 13 and dealt out 10 assists. Tyler Fidler with 13, and Cody Darrah and Rob Sihota with 12 each also hit double figures for the Dinos, who had every player in the lineup play at least 9-10 solid minutes.
Calgary won the rebounding battle 35 - 30 as Fidler helped with 7 boards, and shot 47% from the field (23/49) vs. Carroll’s 40% (27/67) with the shot total difference created by 26 Calgary turnovers. The visiting Dinos drew key fouls from the Saints and cashed in 85% (29/34) from the line, while hitting 10/22 treys on a very good shooting night away from home.
The Dinos are at home for a single game on Saturday Oct. 27 against Whitworth College of Spokane this coming weekend, then start league play on Nov. 2nd and 3rd at the Jack Simpson Gym with encounters against perennial Canada West Pacific powers Victoria Vikes and UBC T-Birds.
